Perennial Phlox

Butterfly on coreopsis tickseed. This tall coreopsis spreads very quickly by dropping seeds everywhere, but it is easy to pull up unwanted seedlings as the roots are shallow. The flowers bloom for weeks, and look nice next to my Alaska Shasta daisies, but do need deadheading and can look floppy/messy later in the season because the stalks are lanky and floppy. I put them among stronger-stemmed flowers to help keep them upright.

What kind of butterfly is this? Swallowtail?

lavender - does anyone know what type this is? I lost the seed packet...

Gaillardia (blanket flower) grown from seeds.

These flowers look great paired with yellow yarrow. I have noticed in recent years that there there is an insect that creates tiny holes in some of the leaves of the gaillardia, but I haven't discovered the culprit. Does anyone know what I'm talking about?

yarrow - I grow several varieties. Yellow yarrow, grapefruit, and another berry-colored variety, all from Swallowtail seeds. Yarrow grows very well in my NJ garden. It spreads a little each year but is easy to control.

French marigold. I think this is the prettiest of the marigolds. They are very easy to grow but seem to grow slowly in my zone 6 (but elevated) yard once planted. They seem to grow faster in pots on the deck.
